Our founder, Michael, worked as a civil engineer in the Scottish Highlands. During site visits, he took hundreds of photos and detailed notes by hand, then spent about an hour transcribing them from his notebook to his computer. He wondered, "What if I could add notes directly to the photo and its file name?"

Michael could not find any suitable app for his use case, so he started developing his own app. A first prototype was created.

By adding notes directly to the photos on site, Michael boosted his efficiency both on site and in the office. Besides not needing transcription, Michael could find site notes easier and faster since the information whas directly on the photos. As a result, Michael saved about an hour per site visit.

Conota was initially intended as a private project for personal use, however the benefits of the app for the wider audience were clear. After months of improvements Conota was published on Google Play. Fellow professionals could now benefit from Conota too.

Conota was firstly published as SurveyCam, subsequently rebranding to SpotLens, and finally to Conota Camera due to pressure from multinational companies."

Conota was continuously improved, adding more features and customisations. The working community appreciated Conota's capabilities and was using them extensively. Maintaining and improving Conota became ever more time-consuming. The creation of a company was the most sensible continuation.

Developing and maintaing Conota became ever more time-consuming, thus Michael gathered a small team of engineers and freelancers around him to support his work on improving Conota Camera. A company based in Feldkirch, Austria, was created.

Conota's team worked more than a year on the development of more advanced tools tailored for professional use. The design and workflow of the tools were iteratively improved and optimised. Implementing some of Conota Pro's features involved cutting-edge and highly complex technology, necessitating extensive research and rigorous testing. Finally, Conota Pro got published and is now used by thousands in their daily job routine.
